More raku....

I just thought I'd share one or two pieces from last weeks raku firings. These bowls will be popping at a couple of events soon- at Chelmsford Museum and at the Bazaar at Firsite in Colchester in the next month or so. They'll be the last for a while before I get back to making, sculpting and throwing once again.

A flirtation with wood ash and stoneware

It's been 17 years since I last fired any pots with ash glazes... I tend to be known for somewhat "whacky" Raku...but I do have an appreciation for classical  japanese and korean pottery. I'd also been experimenting with ash glazes and nuka glaze- which traditionally is made from rice hulk ash...but in my case - whatever I burned in the fire place over winter! It's been an enjoyable process. Whether or not I pursue this line..I don't know, although I would like to develop the texture into bowl forms. I'm still deciding on the glaze...it's all good fun and experimentation is good for the soul with pottery. I haven't been doing enough of late.

New online shop with Handmade in Britain

You may remember a few years back I had  link up with Handmade in Britain , which led to me participating in 2 exhibitions, one at Bath and one in New Delhi in India! (This was before the days of  " Curocarte" ...)  I was lucky enough to gain a write up in Handmade in Britian vol 1- published by Vivays t oo. A few years later and I've joined up with Handmade again, this time via their online shop. This is now officially open! There's a new customer 10 percent off discount which can be used for first purchases and I include that below. Have a browse at : https://www.handmadeinbritain.co.uk/artist/shaunhallraku/
